The 2006/07 flu season is upon us. Influenza is the 6th
leading cause of death in the U.S., killing approximately
36,000 people per year. Make sure you, your family, your
friends and colleagues are protected.
Additional benefit to your business:
A placebo-controlled study of influenza immunization published
in the New England Journal of Medicine convincingly showed the
value of vaccination in working adults: Those who were
immunized reported 43% fewer days of sick leave and reported
44% fewer doctor’s visits due to upper respiratory illness
(URI), Immunization reduced the frequency of URI by 25% and
the duration of URI by 20%. The net savings from immunization
was $4,685 per 100 employees. The vaccinated group also
reported 36% fever days of sick leave due to all illnesses.
We are now scheduling on-site clinics for the 2006-2007 flu
season. Please call 323-297-0700 or 1-888-499-PASS (7277) to
secure your on-site clinic. We will honor pre-books on a first
come first serve basis should we experience another delay or
shortage in 2006-2007.
We also offer a “voucher program” in which your group can
pre-purchase the vaccine for your on-site clinic. Then if
someone is unable to attend, they can use their voucher to
receive their flu vaccine later at one of our four convenient
locations throughout the bay area.
For your convenience our Flu
Vaccination Consent Form is available
here.
Please print out the form, complete & bring the form in with
you when you come in.
Sorry, Passport Health cannot not accept health insurance
and or Medicare reimbursement.
What is the flu?
Influenza, commonly called "the flu" is a
contagious disease caused by the influenza virus, which
infects the nose, throat and lungs. The flu usually comes on
suddenly and is not a cold. It may include these symptoms: ·
Fever · Headache · Dry Cough · Body Aches · Sore Throat ·
Nasal Congestion · Fatigue (sometimes extreme)
How is the influenza virus passed around?
The flu is spread when an infected person coughs, sneezes
or speaks, sending the flu virus into the air, and other
people inhale the virus. The virus enters the nose, throat, or
lungs and begins to multiply, causing symptoms of the flu.
Less often, flu may be spread when a person touches a surface
that has flu viruses on it - a door handle, for instance - and
then touches his or her nose or mouth.
How long is a person with flu virus contagious?
Adults may be contagious from 1 day prior to becoming sick
and for 3-7 days after they first develop symptoms. Some
children may be contagious for longer than one week.
How serious is the flu?
While some persons who get the flu may recover in 1-2
weeks, some persons may develop life-threatening
complications, such as pneumonia. The CDC states persons 65
years and older, persons of any age with chronic medical
conditions, and very young children are more likely to get
complications from the flu.
Guidelines suggest a Pneumococcal vaccine for anyone over
50 years of age.
